María Isabel

My name is Maria o Isabel, I am 46 years old, I was born in Tuxtla Gutierrez Chiapas.

I come from a large family of 7 siblings and I am the only one who lives in Tijuana and I’ve been here for 21 years.

I worked in an orphanage for a while and feel like I’ve always been destined to work with women.  Kind of funny how I always am drawn to that work.  

Then I spent 5 years working for an organization to help women who have been traffiked. This was a good  fit for me because I understand a lot of things about that topic.

I really liked that work, but life took me in another direction.  I’m currently working in a shelter with migrant women.
I like to hear their stories and I know listening helps them feel more comfortable and like they are not alone on this journey.   I also volunteer part time on weekends for a ministry who builds houses for low income people.
